The catahoula Leopard dog

The Catahoula Cur is a beautiful breed of dog originating from Louisiana, being named the state dog in 1979. Follwing this he's name changed to Louisiana Catahoula Leopard dog, people believe he was the first dog breed in North America!. In the 16th cenury its believed that the North Americans bred the greyhound with the molosser, to produce this beauty. However, some believe he is part of the red wolf descendents. The final theory is believed to be when the French setled in the states in the 19th century, where they introduced the Beauceron. It was told that strange looking dogs with glass like eyes would be used to help the North American Indians hunt the swamp! the haunting glass eyed like dog was said to be a product of the French Beauceron and the Red Wolf.
HIghly energetic dogs, these hounds  enjoy taking charge of a pack, either canine or human! As a family dog they work well, but dont take too kindly to being isolated or left out! They are known to be protectors of humans, and are alert to anything out of the ordinary, making great guard dogs. The Catahoula species can be found in many different beautiful shades, however the prodomiantly white ones can have a 80% chance of being bilaterally deaf. From a puppy these pooches usually set ou back about $400 or £237.
